Topping-Off Ceremony at The Bus Stop Apartments

Thistle Communities hosted a traditional topping-off ceremony at The Bus Stop Apartments on June 20. This is Thistle’s newest affordable-housing development at 4871 Broadway in Boulder, the former location of the iconic Bustop Gentlemen’s Club. The event celebrated the building of 53 new affordable housing units in the city. Joining the fun was the development’s general contractor, Burke Builders, RHAP architecture + planning, plus many community members, local dignitaries and staff from Representative Joe Neguse’s office.
The topping-off ceremony is a builder’s rite traditionally held when the last beam, or its equivalent, is placed atop a structure during construction. Several local news stations provided on-the-spot coverage as the community came together to celebrate, sign the beam and then watch it being placed on the new development.
Topping-Off with Community and Development Partners
The development team of Allison Management, Thistle Communities and AGR Development purchased the property, now called The Bus Stop Apartments, in April 2016. It received funding from Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, National Development Council, ANB Bank and the City of Boulder.
The Bus Stop Apartments will be completed by January 2020. In addition to 53 one-bedroom and studio units, the development includes a community room and community art space. All rents will service households that earn 60 percent of the average monthly income (AMI) or under.
Thistle intends to partner with Boulder’s North Boulder NOBO Art District on community events in its public spaces.
